bees

What is bees?

bees is a desktop app, CLI and phone app for running many Claude Code agents across many projects. It starts agents on your beads and merges their work once your project's checks pass. Questions from agents come to you in one inbox. When you want to know what was built, bees can explain it in writing, as audio or as a narrated tour of the code.

What do I need to use it?

Claude Code with a Claude subscription or API access, beads (bd) and git. ffmpeg is needed for audio and video explainers, and Tailscale for the phone app.

What runs where today: macOS 12 or later: desktop app and CLI, Apple silicon and Intel. Linux: CLI, TUI and MCP server, x86-64 and ARM64. Windows: in progress. See downloads.

What are beads?

beads is an issue tracker that lives in your repository and that agents use from the command line with bd. Each piece of work is a bead, with dependencies between them. bees reads your beads and adds to them, but it keeps no task list of its own. Everything bees shows comes from bd, git or Claude Code's own files.

Does it work with my existing projects?

Yes. Any folder with a .beads/ directory is a project; bees discover ~/code finds them all. bees can set up beads in a project that doesn't have it yet.

Is it safe to let a swarm loose on my repository?

Each agent works in its own git worktree on its own branch. bees merges finished branches into your base branch one at a time, only after your project's build and tests pass, and nothing is pushed unless you turn pushing on. Questions an agent can't settle come to you as decisions, and the work waits for your answer.

Does bees use my Claude usage?

Yes: agents run on your own Claude Code subscription, the same as if you ran them in a terminal. bees shows how much of your usage each bead took, and auto mode pauses when your usage runs high.

Does it work with other coding agents?

Not today. bees is built around Claude Code: its sessions, hooks and transcripts.

Does bees see my code?

No. bees runs on your computer and talks to Claude Code there; your code, beads and explainers stay on your machine. The planned Pro relay for your phone is end-to-end encrypted, so we can't read what passes through it, and an explainer is only shared if you share it.

Is bees open source?

No. bees is free to use, but its source is not public.

Windows?

The desktop app for Windows, with native Windows terminals, is in progress. Get notified.

Phone

How does the phone app connect to my computer?

Today, over your own Tailscale network: Settings › Phone sets it up and shows a QR code to pair your phone. You install the app from the browser. Your computer does the work, so it needs to be awake. Pro will add a hosted, end-to-end encrypted relay so your phone reaches it without Tailscale.

What can I do from my phone?

Answer decisions, chat with a project's Queen or the Beekeeper, browse beads, start swarms, watch agent logs and live terminals, and get a push notification when something needs you.

Pricing and accounts

Is bees really free?

Yes. Everything bees does on your computer is free, with no limits and no trial, and we will never charge for a feature that runs on your machine. Paid plans only cover things that need our servers (the phone relay, shared links, premium voices) or a team. See pricing.

Do I need an account?

No. Downloads are free and need no sign-in, and the app needs no account. An account is optional: sign in with Google or GitHub if you like. Soon it will carry your settings between your machines and, when Pro opens, your plan. See privacy for what an account stores.

What happens if a subscription ends?

The hosted features stop: the relay, shared links and premium voices. Nothing local changes.

When can I buy Pro?

Pro is coming soon. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when it opens.
